Creative arts : Where words are not enough – An intermodal therapy approach

(The Workshop will be in attended person at Rakhawy Institute for 2 sessions on Thursday and Friday)

  • Certificate: Upon completion of the workshop, trainees receive a certificate of completion. It is mandatory to attend the two days to get the certificate.

Workshop Calendar:

1. Day 1:

      • Morning Session:
        – Introduce participants to the fundamental principles of expressive arts therapy.
        – Explore the integration of art, movement, drama, and music, story therapy in healing processes.
        – Discuss the importance of sensory engagement in expressive arts therapy.
      • Afternoon Session:
        – Conduct hands-on activities to practice expressive arts therapy techniques.
        – Demonstrate how expressive arts therapy supports self-actualization and healing.
        – Emphasize the role of expressive arts therapy in humanitarian settings.

2. Day 2:

      • Morning Session:
        – Review key figures and factors that shaped the development of expressive arts therapy.
        – Provide an overview of psychology principles relevant to expressive arts therapy.
        – Guide participants in designing an Expressive Arts Therapy Project for a specific community group.
      • Afternoon Session:
        – Facilitate a “Art & Social Engagement” to explore the impact of arts on society.
        – Encourage participants to apply learned concepts through collaborative activities.
        – Emphasize ethical guidelines and standards of practice in expressive arts therapy.

About the Trainer:

Magdalene Jeyarathnam

Magdalene Jeyarathnam: Pioneering Expressive Arts Therapist & Certified Psychodramatist With nearly 30 years of experience in counseling and therapy, Magdalene Jeyarathnam is a trailblazer in the field of expressive arts therapy and psychodrama. As a certified psychodramatist, she has worked with individuals, couples, and groups, including family groups, in India and globally.

A Legacy of Impact
Magdalene’s extensive experience spans working with addiction, HIV/AIDS, and mental health issues, collaborating with government agencies, UNICEF, and WHO on projects. She is the founder of the East West Center for Counselling and the Indian Institute of Psychodrama, India’s first psychodrama training institute.

Leadership & Recognition
Magdalene is a founding member of the Indian Academy of Professional Supervisors and serves on the board of directors for the International Association of Group Psychotherapy and Group Processes. She is an international trainer for the association and a co-founder of the Expressive Arts Therapy Association of India. Her outstanding work has earned her the prestigious Neil Passariello Memorial Award.

Certified Psychodramatist & Trainer
Magdalene is the first Indian psychodramatist trained in India, certified by the Australia Aotearoa (New Zealand) Board of Psychodrama. She has learned from renowned experts like Dr. Herb Propper, Sue Daniel, and Dr. Jorge Burmiester.
