About
Dance/movement therapy (DMT)
In the 1940s, some innovators, many of whom accomplished dancers, began to realize the benefit of using dance and movement as a form of therapy. The relational- expressive approach (DMT-ER®) revives the traditional social function of dance: renewing community bonds and promoting well-being. It is a conception of DMT particularly close to the Mediterranean cultural sensitivity. Marian Chace, who worked in psychiatry, wrote that the main purpose of DMT is to reconnect individuals to the group, thus reintegrating their body image. Dmt-ER® relaunches her radically relational approach to psychophysical care.
DMT is a holistic approach to healing, based on the empirically supported assertion that mental, physical and social experiences are inseparable. But DMT, as an embodied approach, can be difficult to describe, it is necessary to actively engage in the process, to get a true sense of what it is.
