Ethics of Therapist Self-Care: Inside and Outside the Work Setting – Online workshop for 2 days for 90 min each day.

 

About the workshop:  

This workshop be an integrative approach that will examine the importance of self-care for therapists in maintaining effectiveness and ethical boundaries in clinical practice. There are over three decades of research on therapist self-care and thousands of years of ancient wisdom on the significance of helper self-care.  We will examine the social psychology and interpersonal neurobiology skills of resilience when experiencing daily negative or traumatic stories. We will focus on setting boundaries when conducting therapy and when away from the therapy setting. We will be developing your own self-care checklist while using the Stages of Change model.

Online workshop

Objectives:

  1. Explore the importance of therapist’s self-care in a therapy practice indicated by research and ancient wisdom.
  2. Delineating the skills to build resilience when being affected by negative stories and events.
  3. Noting the significance of one’s practice in defining and maintaining boundaries during therapy and when not officially working.
  4. Learning how to build your own self-care checklist while using the Stages of Change model.

Trainer: Greg Crosby, MA, LPC, ICGP, FAGPA

About the Trainer:

Greg Crosby is a practicing therapist, trainer, teacher, and consultant. He was the clinical regional coordinator of group therapy at Kaiser Permanente in Oregon and Washington for over 25 years. Fellow in the American Group Psychotherapy Association. Greg serves on the Board of International Certified Group Psychotherapists and on the Human Science Faculty and Art Therapy Graduate Program at Marylhurst University. Since 2004, he has served on the faculty at Portland State University in the Certificate Program of Interpersonal Neurobiology and teaches group therapy courses in the Human Services Program.

He matches group models from a wide variety of modalities including psycho dynamic, interpersonal, social skills, CBT, DBT, psycho-educational to client’s needs, educational levels and learning styles. His work has included implementing groups for private practice, early childhood programs, schools, colleges, managed care, prisons, residential treatment, community mental health and retirement centers.

In 1994, he started the first adult attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) group for the Kaiser Permanente Northwest Region, and has been working with the Oregon, Attorney Assistance program providing ADHD workshops since 2013. Crosby is a certified group psychotherapist and group psychotherapy fellow. He teaches adult ADHD classes at Portland State University and Marylhurst University. Crosby offers workshops on ADHD for professionals, and has a private practice where he works with adults diagnosed with ADHD
