Description of the workshop
This course is designed to delve into Jacques Lacan’s Seminar XI, The Four Fundamental Concepts in Psyhoanalysis where Lacan examines Freud’s central concepts of the unconscious, repetition, transference and the drive.
On the one hand Lacan continues his “Return to Freud” as the task he had been pursuing for the previous ten years of his teaching and then begins to move on to the next phase of his Freudian elaboration by bringing important changes and clarifications to Freud’s basic concepts.
Trainers
- Dr. Macario Girlado Master's in Applied Linguistics at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. in 1964. Ph.D in Clinical Psychology at Catholic University, Washington, D.C. in 1972. Post-graduate training, The Washington School of Psychiatry in individual and group psychotherapy. Founding member of the Lacanian Forum of Washington, D.C. and having his private practice in Arlington, VA.
This course will expose
- The student to Jacques Lacan's masterful discourse on psychoanalysis.
- It will be a challenge for those already initiated into several orientations in Psychoanalysis but also potentially an inspiration to them and to those coming into psychoanalysis at a more introductory level.
Time
- Each class will be for one and a half hour with 45 minute presentation followed by discussion and opportunity for students to share their work and their questions as they consider how to apply these concepts in the clinic.
